For many of us, the Movie ‘The Goonies’ epitomises our childhood. It’s a memory that will never ever fade and nor would we want it to. The film was a hit in 1985 and was directed by Richard Donner. The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by Steven Spielberg.
The Goonies were a band of kids who nicknamed themselves the “Goon Docks”. The Goonies home town of Goon Docks comes under threat so they go on an adventure to find the buried treasure of a legendary 17th-century pirate named One-Eyed Willie, hoping it will save the town.
The Goonies sequel has been rumoured for what seems like a lifetime and although nothing has materialised yet it doesn’t mean it wont. Remember, Goonies never say die.
Corey Feldman, star of the original has spoken to MTV about a sequel,
“I would like to say that there’s a great writer on it and it’s coming soon [but] I have nothing for you. It’s a film Spielberg very badly wanted to make [and] Richard Donner very badly wanted to make. All of us [the cast] really, really wanted to do it. It’s come to the point of the script got ordered, and then the ball got dropped. For whatever reason, Warner Bros. doesn’t see it as a profitable venture. It’s a very sad, unfortunate story. But they just decided to make ‘Lost Boys 2′ after 20 years. Anything’s possible!”
Corey also said that an animated TV series would be possible. But would this be the same? Do you think people would watch it?
Sometimes with films so iconic as the Goonies, a sequel would just crash and burn but I seriously think that the next generation needs it. The Goonies could live on with a cracking sequel and I’m adamant that it should be done. Saying that I wouldn’t mind an animated series for television either.
What do you think? Would you watch an animated Goonies series?
