Red Symons has recently spoken to the creator of the WikiScanner, Virgil Griffith who some people are calling a mischief making computer hacker. For those of you who do not know what the WikiScanner is you must be living on another planet, in Wikipedia’s own words they describe it as a tool which “consists of a publicly searchable database that links millions of anonymous Wikipedia edits to the organizations where those edits apparently originated, by cross-referencing the edits with data on the owners of the associated block of IP addresses”.
Virgil has said that he came up with the idea of WikiScanner when he heard that a Congressmen was caught for white-washing their Wikipedia pages, and it seems that many more leading politicians have gone onto Wikpedia and then edited the entries that they did not agree with.
