Earlier this month we reported that the title would be Punisher: Welcome Back Frank but, the official site for Lionsgate Films has revealed that the title for the Punisher sequel will be Punisher: War Zone. Sorry, but why is there a punisher sequel? The first one wasn’t even good enough to warrant one!
The Punisher’s title was the name of a Marvel comic book series that ran from 1992-1995. It was also the title for a previous film sequel that was written by Jonathan Hensleigh, the director of the 2004 Punisher film.
Ray Stevenson will replace Thomas Jane to play Frank Castle after Jane supposedly walked away from the project after having doubts about the script. The screenplay was written by Nick Santora, Kurt Sutter, Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. Filming is said to start this fall in Montreal for a 2008 release.
