Paper Airline Ticket Dead: etickets will reduce the processing cost to airlines
By: Daniel Chubb | August 29, 2007 | Leave a CommentApparently, paper airline tickets are now a thing of the past.
From now on airlines will use etickets, which will save both time and money. In case you hadn’t already guessed, etickets are electronic tickets, ie on a comuter system rather than printed on a piece of card.
The airline trade body, Iata has said that these old fashioned paper tickets will be history as of June 2008. Iata conducts settlements between 60,000 travel agents and the airlines.
The change to etickets will drop the cost of processing an airline ticket to just 50p (US$1), whereas it has been over £4.50 (US$9). This means that etickets will save the airline business a massive £3 billion.
