Rumors about a version 2 iPhone that have been around since May are experiencing a resurgence. Details from an article in DigiTimes talks about the Chinese-language Commercial Times based in Taiwan where a recent report was made about Taiwan-based Wintek getting touch screen panel orders from Apple for its second-generation iPhone. The report claims that this new iPhone will begin shipping in September for around $249 to $299, and that they have already started test production in small batches. Other Chinese-language sources have cited Quanta Computer as a possible manufacturer of the supposed second gen iPhone. Both Quanta and Wintek have declined to comment however.
Whether or not there’s truth to the rumor, I’m sure everyone can appreciate a $249 iPhone. One personally hopes that something similar to that is in the works.
