An Owners View: Microsoft and Xbox 360 I am sick of them

Xbox 360
I have owned the Xbox 360 since they first came out (a long time ago) and although I have never played it more than a couple of hours as I work a lot from home, many of my family members Xbox 360’s are dropping down like flies with the 3 red lights.

First lets make it clear that I do love the 360 and my games collection is over 40 games, but with the thought of it dieing one day when I decide to play it a lot more I decided to give Microsoft a phone call (remember facts are I am seeing problems with my friends and family 360’s).

After 40 mins on the phone where did I get?
In short they will only repair the 360 if I get the 3 red lights (even after telling them it sounds like a tank and gets so hot I cannot let my 4 year old son touch it), but guess what.

They will repair the 360 if I pay them some money (although it does not have the 3 red lights), the lady from Microsoft Xbox 360 support did say she is aware of the problems they were sold with and that’s why they can repair the problem of overheating.

So still on the phone trying to understand that they sold the Xbox 360 to me with an overheating problem, but saying its company policy to only repair after the 1 year warranty if it has the 3 red lights…I WAS SOLD A PRODUCT THAT GETS WAY TOO HOT.

To top this off I also own a Microsoft Racing Wheel which they have issued a recall on because of (guess what) overheating again…now this is funny.

They will recall the Racing Wheel for overheating even though the overheating problem has not happened to me yet, but they will not recall the Xbox 360 for overheating…this is mad.

It must all come down to money, but I feel someone should make Microsoft recall all Xbox 360’s as in my view they sold them with problems of overheating (that’s why it sounds like a tank).

I still love the 360 and the games I have, but think Microsoft should do the right thing.

I own a Nintendo Wii as well and think I am going to move to the Playstation 3 for most of my new game buys (only buying games on the 360 like Halo 3).

Are you serious? I don’t understand why people defend the 360 when it known to break. Slam the PS3 all you want but at .02% failure rate and the Wii at .05% the 360’s 33% failure rate is just sad.

    @ Daniel
Microsoft will not recall the 360 because if they do they are done. It’s basically like saying our system sucks please don’t buy it to all of America. MS did the clever thing with the 3 year warranty. If you ask anybody they think it just a 3 year warranty that covers everything when it doesn’t. This band aid on things can slow the bleeding while MS starts trickling out the 360 falcon with the quieter chips. That way their failure rate will get better without having to admit their system is a peice of junk. They ruched it out so they can get a year head start and it helped system sales.

Lame. Begging for hits? Are you that desperate?

  7. diggs says:

Microsoft sucks, however the Xbox 360 the most superior console on the market. Now I am no smarter than anyone else but it would seem that if I had a 4year old at home and my Xbox had the capability to harm my child that I would have probably not waited an entire year or more to get the issue resolved. Again not a genius just saying thats what a real concerned parent would do. I got the 360 the night it came out and have had the ring of death twice. Both times Microsoft sent me a brand new console and a free month xbox live the nerve of those A–holes. Xbox360 is a rockstar.

I don’t understand why people are bashing the PS3? The 360 has reliability issues that have yet to be solved. The new ones with the HDMI port still overheat even with the added heatsink. Not until the 65nm chips come out will the overheating problem go away. That is not including the scratching discs problem that has yet to be solved.

Yeah this article was written to get hits and he probably is that desperate but he still has to write something.

If the 360 was a car it would be recalled, if it was a laptop it would be recalled, if it was made by Intendo or Sony it would have been re…… oh wait if it was made by Nintendo or Sony it would just work.

  9. Adam says:

I’ll be honest, I’m on my 5th 360 since launch day. It pisses me off. But, as long as MS will repair my 360 for free, I’m ok with it.

It boils down to the fact that I want to play games like Halo 3, GoW, BioShock, etc. The PS3 doesn’t have them. You can argue hardware all you want, but both systems look (graphically) pretty similar. Games are what matters.

So, my advice, article writer person, would be to either try and fry your 360 so you can get it repaired, or quit complaining about how “almost” broken it is. My computer has the loudest fan in the world, but it works so I’m not going to gripe about it
