An Owners View: Microsoft and Xbox 360 I am sick of them

I have owned the Xbox 360 since they first came out (a long time ago) and although I have never played it more than a couple of hours as I work a lot from home, many of my family members Xbox 360’s are dropping down like flies with the 3 red lights.
First lets make it clear that I do love the 360 and my games collection is over 40 games, but with the thought of it dieing one day when I decide to play it a lot more I decided to give Microsoft a phone call (remember facts are I am seeing problems with my friends and family 360’s).
After 40 mins on the phone where did I get?
In short they will only repair the 360 if I get the 3 red lights (even after telling them it sounds like a tank and gets so hot I cannot let my 4 year old son touch it), but guess what.
They will repair the 360 if I pay them some money (although it does not have the 3 red lights), the lady from Microsoft Xbox 360 support did say she is aware of the problems they were sold with and that’s why they can repair the problem of overheating.
So still on the phone trying to understand that they sold the Xbox 360 to me with an overheating problem, but saying its company policy to only repair after the 1 year warranty if it has the 3 red lights…I WAS SOLD A PRODUCT THAT GETS WAY TOO HOT.
To top this off I also own a Microsoft Racing Wheel which they have issued a recall on because of (guess what) overheating again…now this is funny.
They will recall the Racing Wheel for overheating even though the overheating problem has not happened to me yet, but they will not recall the Xbox 360 for overheating…this is mad.
It must all come down to money, but I feel someone should make Microsoft recall all Xbox 360’s as in my view they sold them with problems of overheating (that’s why it sounds like a tank).
I still love the 360 and the games I have, but think Microsoft should do the right thing.
I own a Nintendo Wii as well and think I am going to move to the Playstation 3 for most of my new game buys (only buying games on the 360 like Halo 3).

Well unless YOU have the three red lights, they’re not going to do squat to help you for free. Repair time for each 360 can stretch to about 6 weeks, so they probably want to concentrate on repairing the ones that are actually dead as dodos.
well,
this is typical microsoft procedure. Let the customer do the testing and find the bugs.
Get a Wii or PS3.
hahahahahahahahhahaa…. sorry
HAHAHAHAHhahahahahahahahahahahah… sorry
MWHAHAHAHAHAHAahhahahahahaahahahahahha….ha
WHo cares the 360 is the mega drive and the ps3 is the super nintendo,. looks them up on wikipedia
Yea but I can still understand why this guys is mad because they sold him a faulty console that is prone to over heating and like 33% of the consoles do it and it is well known that the 360 has an over heating problem and everyone knows that it is MS’s fault but he still has to pay for it. He has bought a 360 that was guranteed to brake because of the poor way it was built but he has to pay for it.
And the 360 does not just have an over heating problem, it also has a disk drive problem, quite alot of 360s have to be sent back because the disk drive can no longer read or spin the CD (obviously poor manufacturing on MS’s part because still alot of 360’s do it.) But these problems do not get you the extended warranty even though its certain that its MS’s fault. My 360 was well taken care of and then I got the “error please insert this disk into a 360″…(YOU ARE THE 360!!!!!)
I have to admit that I don’t think MS are quite cut out for the video game industry, I mean the only real reason I bought mine was so that I can play halo 3, if that franchise was on another console there would probably be no 360.
You guys are retarded. The thing is still working perfectly. They recalled the wheels because they are SMOKING. If your 360 dies, you get another brand new one for free. Sounds like a good deal to me. All 360’s are eventually going to come with HDMI ports, so when mine dies, I’ll get a free upgrade. My laptop is hot as shit but I didn’t go post a blog about it.
I totally get what your saying being a 360 owner myself i’m always worried that the 3RROD may appear at any time (knowing my luck will be the second i stick in halo 3). But you state “remember facts are I am seeing problems with my friends and family 360’s” and were surprised taht after 40 mins you got no where, well lets be honest what do you expect its not like you phoned up about your console going kaput, you phoned up talked about strange goings on with friends/families consoles! I would assume any company would not be interest in taking that call (not the company itself but the low paid under appreciated call center staff certainly would want to listen to it!)
Well, first off, it doesn’t sound like a “tank” because of verheating, but because of the disc drive because the disc spins 12 times faster than normal.
You can’t really blame Microsoft for some consoles failing. Unlike Sony, they don’t manufacturing or built the parts for their consoles. See, sony is more of hardware company. They usually make hard ware, that’s why they manufacture their own products. microsft is a softwae company. Most of their proucts are are downloaded or on CDs, so they don’t need their own manufacturer because that’s not where their profits came from. That’s why Microsft could not release a smaller version of the original xbox because they were using off-the-shelf parts. This is why Microsft’s hardware might not be as reliable. Also because misrosoft deals with software, their developer tools (tools developers use to make game for xbox) are always much superior to Sony’s. That’s part of the reason many games are first made on 360 and ported to PS3.
Ok, so I am right now waiting on my UPS box to send back the — 5th time replaced — 360 that I just got back on Monday (which this one doesn’t recognize my Hard Drive, thus it being sent back today).
I’m a bit demoralized by this whole process this time, but I babby my 360. Play only a few hours a day a few days a week. Love this system! Just bought BioSHock the day I got it back all ready to play, and I couldnt…that blows!
Yeah its loud and it gets hot, but all these dorks sending in non-broken 360s just to get a new one, is messing with my truly busted repair process.
My bro plays daily for hours on end and nothing. My friends in FL same thing…no issues. Why me?
I got 70 games now, counting the ones I sold off…had my 360 since Nov 22nd, 2005.
No Xbox support issues here to complain about other than, I’ve called them to many times.
I keep all my electronics well ventilated, cords untangled, free of dust, etc… If you’re really worried about getting a different unit even though the one you have is fine, then leave it on all day and block all the vents so that it can break and then ask for a repair.
PS3?? There are so few new games for that platform and many of the ones slated to be released are either delayed or canceled because the cell is too hard to program on. Granted it is the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market but Sony has not had much luck forcing consumers to accept their proprietary technology (BETA MAX). Since you’re considering buying a PS3, you should trade your Xbox for one of the newer ones with the HDMI port, they have been reported to resolve many of the over heating issues. You will be happily playing Halo 3 with millions of others on Live for years to come.
