Rob Zombie’s Halloween Workprint Leaked Online 4 Days Before The Premiere

A work print of Rob Zombie’s Halloween has made its way to the internet. Several Bit Torrent websites have the copy just four days before the film’s premiere on Friday.
Eli Roth’s Hostel: Part II suffered the same fate and unfortunately the leaked copy of the movie was enough to dissuade the online horror community not to spend their hard earned cash at the box office. Fingers crossed this doesn’t happen with Halloween.
Movie Piracy is scarily common these days. Of course it can actually help a movie, in the case of Michael Moore’s Sicko the leaked copy and strong word of mouth helped the movie earn mega bucks at the box office.
One thing that has been rumoured is that the ‘accidental leaking’ of the movies aren’t that accidental at all. Both Sicko and Halloween have ties to The Weinsteins and Sicko and Hostel 2 have ties to Lionsgate. So could it possibly be that these work-prints were leaked somewhere in the chain of post production of all three of these films?
Who knows, but one thing is for sure is that movie piracy could quite easily ruin the movie industry. So, don’t be cheap - get your wallet out and spend time with the family at the cinema!

Movie piracy will never hurt the movie industry just the same way that Napster never hurt the music industry. Movie piracy fuels the interest in big screen media productions and thusly infuses cash into the already bloated pig called Hollywood. The music industry had a record year for CD sales when Napster was at its peak. Call it illegal, immoral, whatever you wish, the fact remains, movie and music trading is like free advertising. It can never hurt the multimedia industry as a whole. I’m glad I can preview movies without having to spend cash on a POS release. If I really like the movie after watching a usenet release, I’ll buy the DVD when it comes out. If the movie industry puts out crappy movies it’s their own fault if they flub at the box office.
Regardless of a leak or not, there’s still nothing like seeing a movie on the big screen. I think that’s still the appeal for many mofie goers, in that they aren’t satisfied by simply watching a film on their computer monitor. I’m still going to see this film in theatres.
What about watching it in front of my 47 inch LCD with a beer and with popcorn I didn’t have to pay 10$ for? Before I learned how to d/l movies I would go to the theatre twice a year, most of hollywoods junk isn’t worth the price. Now I still go twice a year, but I watch a lot more movies!
