Resignation Roll Call of Justice Department

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, a close associate of President Bush who announced yesterday that he will resign next month, will continue to come under scrutiny from a congressional investigation into whether he worked with the White House in the firing of US attorneys and committed perjury when the Senate questioned him about it. The cirle is complete, with all the department of justice resignations.
- Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, resigned today.
- Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty announced his resignation May 14th.
- Acting Associate Attorney General William Mercer announced that he was withdrawing his nomination for the position June 22nd.
- Kyle Sampson, Gonzales’ chief of staff, resigned March 13th.
- Department White House liaison Monica Goodling resigned April 6th.
- Michael Elston, McNulty’s chief of staff, resigned June 15th.
- Executive Director of the Executive Office of United States Attorneys Michael Battle, announced his resignation in mid-February.
- Bradley Schlozman, an attorney in the Counsel to the Director staff at the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, resigned mid August.
President Bush has yet to name his nominee to succeed Alberto Gonzales as attorney general, but whoever he or she is will have their work cut out for them.
