Many spectators were hoping to see the spectacular Lunar Eclipse over Auckland’s north Shore, but there were so many clouds blowing across the sky that it left them feeling disappointed. The lunar eclipse was going to start at about 8.50pm in Auckland, and although there was a lot of cloud in the sky, there was just about enough breaks in the cloud for people to see this rare event.
For those of you who missed it, here we have a photo of that lunar eclipse. Even though it was a total eclipse there was just about enough light left to produce a ring of light that managed to illuminate the surface of the moon. And to make this lunar eclipse all the more special was the fact that there was enough dust in earth’s atmosphere that is made the surface of the moon appear in blood red.
