Sony PSP Partners with BT for VoIP Messaging Software

Sony PSP Partners with BT
The Sony PSP will be getting VOIP thanks to a partnership of the two giants Japan’s Sony Corp. and the BT Group (British telephone provider), the new piece of software (Go!Messenger) will allow the Playstation Portable to send and receive instant messages, make voice and video calls while in a game.

Thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi (something not even the new Xbox 360 Elite has) the connection is made easily to establish voice communications between gamers.

Many gamers like to chat while playing a game and from my time playing Ghost Recon 2 on the 360 I also know this to be true, this will enhance the fun and gameplay on my Sony PSP.

With more than 24 million PSPs been sold since Dec 2004 this makes a big market and one which BT is happy to initially promote the software itself (they signed a four-year distribution deal)

They will then license the software to regional wireless ISPs around the world that will then repackage and sell under their own brands.

The software Go!Messenger should be commercially available in the UK, Italy, Spain, Germany and France in January 2008.
