Well, it was only a matter of time, and “Finding JTAG” is the revolutionary project that a group of hackers have recently completed which has the potential to crush Apple’s iPhone plans. George Hotz is the public representative of the project. The project “Finding JTAG” is a 10 step program, available online here which enables users to overwrite the iPhone’s read-only memory to accept sim cards from any network of your choice. Previously, the iPhone would only accept AT&T sim cards in the US. George Hotz has told Apple Insider, simply that “So patch out the [carrier] lock; voila, unlocked Apple iPhone.”
However, before attempting the procedure, users must be warned that it can be potentially fatal for your iPhone and is very complicated. Those of us with deep pockets and no technical experience may do better bidding on the original unlocked iPhone, the 2nd in the world. It is up for sale on eBay here and bidding currently stands at $15,000 with 6 days 2 hours remaining.
So, is this a good or bad thing for the iPhone? And would you ever consider trying George Hotz’s process?
