Ryanair Wants Industry-Wide Change With The Way Travel Insurance Is Calculated

Ryanair is an Irish airline with it’s biggest operational base situated in London Stansted Airport. It is Europe’s largest low-cost carrier and is one of the World’s largest and most successful airlines. Ryanair is now taking on travel insurers in it’s latest bid for lower cost flights.
Ryanair is now pushing for an industry-wide change in the way that companies calculate travel insurance, so premiums are based on the performance of individual airlines.
Standing up for its customers, Ryanair are claiming that their passengers are being unfairly penalised when they take insurance against lost luggage and cancelled flights. Apparently Ryanair, with its lower rate of problems mean customers are a lower insurance risk and should ultimately pay less.
Writing directly to the Association of British Insurers insisting on change, Ryanair has claimed that it only loses 0.4 bags per 1,000 flyers compared to the astonishing 28 bags per 1000 flyers for British Airways.
Ryanair’s Peter Sherrard has said,
“For years, the car insurance industry has provided discounts for low risk categories such as women drivers and the over-30s. The time has now come for passengers flying with airlines that deliver the best customer service to enjoy the same discounts,”
“Ryanair calls on the insurance industry to take a new look at travel insurance. The statistics prove that airlines are far from equal, yet insurers do not differentiate.”
Do you agree with Ryanair, should lower risk passengers pay less for their travel insurance?

Yes, I absolutely agree! Why should lower risk passengers need to pay as much as high risk passengers? I don’t want to pay high travel insurance rates on top of using my Global Bag Tags (globalbagtag.com) - and the global bag tags are staying! Travel insurance on the other hand… if I could get a discounted rate somewhere, I’d probably jump on it.
