Own an Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii: Do I buy a Sony PS3 for Blu-ray

Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii
I brought an Xbox 360 as soon as they came out a long time ago and although it’s a known fact that they have overheating problems mine has never broke down, but it does get hot and is very noisy.

As I have a nice big collection of Xbox 360 games I will not change console now, but I did buy a Nintendo Wii to see what all the fuss was about…I know why now.

While the Nintendo Wii is not my main games system for games that I play on my own, it does take over the gaming when we have people over.

The Nintendo Wii is amazing for groups of people and I have never known another gaming system so good at getting everyone involved at all ages, although the graphics are a bit rubbish it is the games console of choice when I have people over.

Sony PS3

Now here is my problem:
If you were in my situation and owned the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, would you buy a Sony PS3 for just Blu-ray and Playstation 3 games that are not on the Xbox 360?

I’m also in the “Waiting for the PS3″ crowd. I own a Wii and I love it, the gameplay makes up for the graphics (which still are pretty good anyway). But yes, the Wii is a great party game that can get everybody involved quicky without having to do much explaining on which buttons to press when. Overall the Wii just makes already fun game concepts/styles even more fun. Your’e not just sitting and touching buttons, you actually have to move which helps draw you into the game. As for the 360, after hearing they break so much, I won’t be buying one. For the PS3 it won’t die, it is too good of a system. I think Sony just went all out and did a really good job but the price makes people think twice. You can do so much more with $600 than spend it on one game console. Overall it isn’t all about money, for many people $600 is allot but they can come up with it by saving for a while. I just think people don’t want to spend that much on a gaming device, even if it is uber cool.

    @bluntman
You must be smoking to say the PS3 is going down in flames and anyone that disagrees is arogant and fanboyish.

First it’s too early to say if anyone is going down in flames.

Second. I would like to point out that “Jules” is in the waiting for the PS3 crowd. There is this crowd of people waiting for the titles to come out and then they will get the system. For some it’s this Christmas, for others its next year for MGS4, for others it’s just price.

The thing is the Xbox360 doesn’t have this crowd. There is no crowd waiting to see what the 360 has. They put there stuff out there. That is why the console isn’t selling as much from month to month. MS is hoping that most people that want Halo 3 don’t have a system so they can go buy one.

Sony other the other hand has the PS2 crowd. If they can get just 10% more of that crowd over to PS3 thats 12 million more units right there.

Bottom line is PS3 is really hampered by the price. Once it dropped to $500 people started buying them like crazy. If they drop it to $400 you will see PS3’s being bought insane like.

So don’t say the PS3 is going down in flames when only two things are giving people the wait and see, Price and games which are coming this christmas so it will just be price.

360 already has games and a decent price so why are they not selling as much as they use to?

I would definately buy one. All of the analysts agree that it is the best value out there for any consumer electronics. Sony will never get out of the video game industry, unless they have like 5 consoles go down. Plain and simple it is a great entertainment system. The games will come. The system will be around for 10 years. With less than one percent failure rate it is indeed a great investment with great value. Blue ray looks way better than DVDS. Paramount just went to HD, however all of this summers blockbusters are exclusive to blue ray. If you want to see them, you have to go blue ray. I own the 360 and the PS3. I barely play the 360 (that will change after the next couple games). I use the PS3 for all of my entertainment. I also just switched the hard drive to a bigger one (200 gigs). In no way can buying a PS3 be a bad investment.

You can buy a stand alone player for less than a PS3 or HD add on for you 360.
But even with blue ray out selling HD it hasn’t won yet and if you invest you might find yourself with dead hardware.

I would not buy a ps3 yet. I am from the UK and it is about twice as muchas americans pay. I got it and i dont have a high def TV and the games were crap i decided to sell it and get a 360 and i have not stoped playing on it. The menu on the ps3 is shitt and there is no ingame interface. You can also not listen to music. Blu Ray is pretty good but just save your money and get a HD DVD add on. My 360 gets hot a littl bit but on the top side of the ps3 it gets very hot and that makes my console to rash but i have heard others are ok but it might be my look. Jus wait untill the price gets slashed in half then buy one but i think the 360 is a much better console

I would wait until Blu-ray went down in price and get a really good Blu-ray player as the Blu-Ray Drive in the PS3 is poor and only runs at 2x speed… Also Blu-Ray hasn’t won the format war yet. Also the PS3 is bad for software at the moment. Everybody says this and that is coming out… blah… blah… but none of these ‘Killer Apps’ have been released yet so your better off waiting until it’s cheaper and it has the games you want on it. Overall I would say No, because the 360 and Wii will keep you busy enough as it is, especially this Xmas with Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock for the 360 and for Wii there is Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Mario Galaxy, Smash Brothers Brawl, Mario and Sonic At the Olympic Games, Night: Journey of Dreams, Zack and Wiki, Dewy’s Adventure and Resident Evil to name but a few…

    So in short… NO.

By the way go to http://www.vgchartz.com to see upto date sales on the 360, Wii, PS3, DS and PSP

  8. Slippy Sloppy says:

That’s a great question and exactly the same position I’m in. I’d have to say no, why waste your money? I can’t think of one game on the PS3 I want and with Blu-Ray I just look at it as “well it’s a shame that film it’s not out on HD DVD” and I buy it on DVD instead and trade in for an Elite so you can get 1080p upscaling on standard DVDs.

Like a lot of people I may consider getting a PS3 but only when it’s dirt cheap and has the games to justify a purchase and certainly not to help Sony force their file format on the public.

  9. William says:

interestingly for those who are saying that Blu-ray outselling HD-DVD by so much means that its won the format war are ignoring the fact that the Wii and X360 are outselling the PS3 to a similer extent, now im not saying that the PS3 is a rubbish console coz lets face it, it has a LOT of power there, but lets not forget that the N64 was more powerful than the PS1 and the Xbox was more powerful than the PS2, power dousnt mean victory, and it doesnt matter how powerful something is, ppl wont buy into it if its too expensive, i personally own a Wii and have admitidly been a nintendo fanboy all my life, but i also have a ps2 and think its a fantastic console, i wish the ps3 would work but i really do think sony have been wayyy too aregont with it, as for exclusives MGS3 may end up on X360 if the ps3 doesnt sell more, just not for about 12 months after, and while FFXIII isnt confirmed for anything other than PS3 they have confirmed it ISNT exclusive to PS3.

sorry my basic point is that for the price it would cost me to get a HDTV that can output 1080p and a ps3 i could afford a PC with 2 Radeon X2900’s or Geforce 8800’s and a quad core processor, and probably a blu ray and hd-dvd drive as well

  10. MIzzikee says:

The proof is in the pudding. http://www.nexgenwars.com . You already have the two consoles you need sir. BTW, paramount and dreamworks have gone HD-DVD exclusive. It’s shaping up to be a rough night for everyone who has taken the hd-dvd plunge so far, But I look at it like this: I am gaming in High-def 1080P and I have NOT taken the HD plunge yet. I can sit back and wait for the winner to emerge. How many PS3 owners can say that?
