The NASDAQ Stock Market

The NASDAQ is an American stock market with approximately 3,200 companies listed.

NASDAQ stands for the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations system.

The NASDAQ was founded in 1971 by National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD).

NASDAQ is currently at the top of its business, being the largest electronic screen-based equity securities market in the United States. It has more stocks listed and on average trades more shares in a day than any other US stock market.

The NASDAQ Index is used along with the DOW and S&P 500 to give and indication of what the stock market is doing as a whole.
