Judd Apatow is currently Hollywood’s Golden boy. He hit his stride producing, writing and directing the brilliant 2005 film 40-Year-Old-Virgin which earned a cool $109.4M, producing last Augusts’ Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby ($148.8M) and producing, writing and directing this summers fabulous Knocked Up which has earned $148.8M to date.
He’s now produced the highly anticipated SuperBad, which was written by the star of his movie, Knocked Up. Sony knows they’ve got what’s equivalent to gold dust with this film. That’s why they’ve been doing word-of-mouth screenings from coast-to-coast. Every print and online film journalist has seen the film, which has been likened to classics such as American Pie, American Graffiti, Revenge of the Nerds and Dazed and Confused. The film scores an impressive 92% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Industry tracking says that SuperBad is a definite favourite with Males Under 25.
At the moment, the film is set to open in the $25M-$30M range, more so if any under agers sneak into the theatres! That’s the only downside to the film. It’s R-Rated so limits it’s audience.
