Spencer Elden: On Being the Nirvana Baby

You may not recognise the name Spencer Elden, but I’m sure if I said the words “Nirvana Baby” you’d realise what I was talking about. Spencer Elden was the baby on the front cover of Nirvana’s famous Nevermind album.

Elden explains how he became the ‘Nirvana Baby’. His father was fresh out of art school and the first project he landed was with Nirvana, ““The first gig he got was the Nirvana album, and he needed a baby. So they just threw me in the pool, snapped a whole role of film in like a second, and that’s how it happened,”

But what does Spencer, now 17, think of the whole ‘naked baby’ thing? “It’s kind of creepy that that many people have seen me naked. I feel like I’m the world’s biggest porn star. It’s kind of cool, knowing that I’ve been on an album cover, but I feel pretty normal about it because growing up, I’ve always known I was the Nirvana baby,”
