Google Gunning For Microsoft With Free Star Office Software

Software giant Microsoft face another threat to their position as a leader in the software market.

Google are again challenging the dominance of Microsoft by releasing StarOffice which will complete with Microsoft Office, but Star Office has one major advantage.

Its completely free.

This is how Google becomes so successful. It makes better software and offers it for free. Why fight internet piracy and illegal downloads? Why not use the technology to your advantage?

This is what Google does and this it what it is doing with Star Office which consumer will be able to download for free.

Star Office is way better than Google Docs and Spreadsheets, which was a lightweight application. StarOffice is a full blown competitor to Microsoft and before it was included in the Google Pack, it cost $70 from Sun Mircosystems.

Apparently, Google is paying Sun so let Google make Star Office downloadable for free.

Do you think Star Office will end Microsoft domination?

What do you think of Star Office?

StarOffice is *not* a real competitor to MS Office, except for basic use. StarOffice is getting better but is much less functional compared to MS Office, especially MS Office 2007.

If you’re a basic Office user then StarOffice may suffice.
If you’re an intermediate or advanced Office user then StarOffice will be frustrating to work with and you’ll likely spend much time trying to find functionality which is lacking.

MS Office 2007 compared to StarOffice makes you feel like you’re working in MS Office 97 or maybe MS Office 2000. It is just not as functional.

StarOffice will clean MS Office’s clock. Compare the price — free to hundreds of dollars! Compare the quality of products — StarOffice will give 90% of current MS Office users more than they need. The other 10% will also do well by StarOffice. Sun is only going to make this product better and better and remember — it’s FREE!

Microsoft still acts like the robber barons of old–Take all you can get, then drop everything and enjoy the harvest. Their defective products have cost millions of dollars of wasted time and productivity along with perpetual fix-patches. For this you pay a premium and see Mr. Gates toy with new high schools and health projects in Africa. I guess it’s all supposed to make you feel good. It does not!
