An earthquake that had a magnitude of 7.9 has so far killed 72 people in Peru, and another 680 were injured. Originally the pacific tsunami warning center issued a tsunami warning for South America’s Pacific coast, but that threat has now passed and the warning has since been cancelled.
The earthquake happened just off the coast of Peru, but people in Ecuador felt the earthquake as well. Out of the 72 people who died, some of them had been worshippers inside Ica’s Senor de Luren church, but they did not stand a chance as the church collapsed in the earthquake. Although there have been these deaths and injuries, President Alan Garcia has said “Thank you God Almighty, these terrible quakes did not cause a high death toll like in other years.”
