Simon Cowell has been on Britain’s Got Talent, The X Factor and American Idol and it has to be said that they’re all must-see TV thanks to the wit and wisdom of Mr. Nasty.

With series four of The X Factor about to begin here are ten fascinating facts about him.

1. Simon was born in Brighton in 1959 to Eric, who was an EMI record executive, and Julie who was a former dancer.

2. Simon’s first job in the music business was in the EMI mail room.

4. Despite his Mr. Nasty reputation, Simon is a stickler for common courtesy.

5. Is Simon as acerbic as he appears? Simon said that “If I tape an eleven-hour day, guess which parts end up on air - not the bits when I’m pleasant, but the parts when I’m obnoxious,”

6. Simon has amassed an estimated fortune £100 million.

7. Simon made a cameo appearance in Scary Movie 3, playing the judge of a rap contest.

Simon has been memorialised in a song by Nonnie Thompson, an American singer who worked with him in the early nineties. ‘I Hate You Simon Cowell’ features these memorable lyrics: “I can see your pimples! I hate you Simon Cowell and your smelly old black T-shirt! Behind that stupid scowl is a really stupid jerk-off! I hate you, Simon Cowell!”

9. Simon is the godfather of Sinita’s baby.

10. What does Simon really make of his Idol colleague Paula Abdul? Well he said that “We have a very volatile relationship, I mean one minute we’re like Siamese twins, and then we’re Tom and Jerry.”
