Lead poisoning Symptoms and More Lead Paint in Toys
By: Roy | August 15, 2007With the recent toy recall of nearly 20 million toys by Mattel Inc due to lead paint, may parents who may have given their children toys in the items involved in the toy recall may be anxious to know lead poisoning symptoms.
The most common form of lead poisoning is the type where levels of lead in the body build up over time until they reach a toxic amount. Lead poisoning can hard a child’s mental development.
The symptoms of lead poisoning are as follows:
-Reduced IQ
-Slowed body growth
-Hearing problems
- Behavior or attention problems
-Failure at school
-Kidney damage
Other symptoms of lead poisoning may also include:
Irritability
Aggressive behavior
Low appetite and energy
Difficulty sleeping
Headaches
Reduced sensations
Loss of previous developmental skills (in young children)
Anemia
Constipation
Abdominal pain and cramping (usually the first sign of a high, toxic dose of lead poison)
Very high levels may cause vomiting, staggering gait, muscle weakness, seizures, or coma
On the Mattel toy recall list were favourite toys such as Polly Pocket, Barbie, Batman and Doggie Day Care toys that could cause lead poisoning.
