It was rumoured last week that Sam Raimi was offered the Clash of the Titans remake, therefore making us all wonder whether this meant he wasn’t going to make The Hobbit for New Line. Today we’ve found out some more to this story.
New Line are eager to move ahead with the Hobbit so they have quietly been trying to mend fences with Lord of the Rings filmmaker Peter Jackson who has sued the company over his share of profits from the first Rings movie. When New Line Head Bob Shaye was asked if it was true that company insiders have been in talks with Jackson’s reps he answered,
““Yes, that’s a fair statement. Notwithstanding our personal quarrels, I really respect and admire Peter and would love for him to be creatively involved in some way in ‘The Hobbit.’”
It has been reported by IESB that Rami is still interested in helming The Hobbit, but the only way he’ll sign on is if Peter Jackson produces. It definitely sounds more likely that Jackson returning to direct as he is super busy with his own projects.
What do you think about the Sam Raimi directing, Peter Jackson producing combination?
