Sony PS3 & Microsoft Xbox 360 (Elite) Poll: Please help me decide?

Now this is a real poll and not an attempt to cause a war between two platforms I promise you that, I really do have a dilemma. I recently bought an Xbox 360 and am really happy with the game play and graphics, I must say playing online is bloody awesome. Everything about the 360 is great and would not change it, but and a big BUT “It is so noisy and even more so with an intercooler attached”.
Now here is my thing, my cousin had the Xbox 360 and he swore by it until it broke down (oops), so he decided to take it back and in the end he got a full refund. Now his question is does he buy the Xbox 360 Elite or does he by the Sony Playstation 3; well he opted for the PS3 and now he is trying to convert me.
I have recently played the PS3 and must admit am impressed with the graphics, downsides are the Blu-ray seems a little jumpy to me and there are not as many titles as the 360, but I am still confused. Will my cousin convert me, will you convert me.
Please answer my Sony PS3 & Microsoft Xbox 360 Poll: Please help me decide?

I have both xbox 360 and the PS3.
Love xbox 360 just for the sheer fact there are so many games out there but i prefer the PS3 and I wish Sony would get their act together.
WHY?????
Build, true HD, quiet, ……….if and when the games come out i think we will see something special.
If Sony had the games I don’t think there would be much contest but at the mo I’ll carry on playing on the 360.
I wouldn’t do either system, the PS3 is almost dead in the water, with ever decreasing support from the thirds, soon it will be like the GameCube, supported almost entirely by first party games.
The 360 is worse, 1/3 of all the damned systems die! That is not in any way an acceptable number. I would never advise getting one until such time as all the defects in the 360 are corrected, I am stunned people are buying them, despite the price drop - it’s complete b******* to have a machine that has a 33 percent chance of being a useless hunk of plastic.
I’ll be going for a Wii this year, to get the new Fire Emblem, play RE4 and get ready for Mario Kart.
Long ago I bought the xbox 360 just to have something to play with while the PS3 came out.
More than a year latter I still use the 360 and Im looking for a buyer for my PS3 since I dont use it anymore.
The PS3 is a great piece of hardware, but without good software.
And also the control of the PS3 is very unconfortable.
Its the online multiplayer that sells xbox live Scott and that is the same everywhere.
Even though the PS3 will eventually get Home, they don’t have anything to compare to Xbox Live now. Also, just because Sony is promoting Home as better than xbox live doesn’t mean it will be.
Online multiplayer is central to the design of the Xbox 360 and if you like playing games against real people online the best way to do it is on a Xbox 360. There are more games to play online and more people playing them online on the Xbox 360 and Home is not going to change that.
Just buy a Wii… Its small, quiet, has lots of games and its inexpensive…
1. Do I stick with the Xbox 360?
Sure, (unless it breaks)
2. Do I buy the Xbox 360 Elite?
Maybe later( when your current 360 breaks)
3. Do I buy the Sony Playstation 3?
Nah… that thing is going down like the Titanic…
And in regards to Blu-Ray or HD-DVD I wont buy any of those to formats until its absolutely clear which will become the standard… I don’t want to have to re-buy my movie collection again if either format fails… Besides, I’m starting to think both formats will fail, people are going to start to buy their movies online and Download them into their PC, DVR/TiVo/Apple TV type of devises without having to worry who the hell is going to win a format war…
the 360 has a pretty damn good line up this holiday. mass effect, halo 3 and bioshock are must haves. with that in mind, even if heavenly sword turns out to be really good and not a god of war clone then you have to come to the conclusion that the 360 is where you want to be if your a gamer. they’ve got a growing catalougue of great games and the console is cheaper. Also now that GTA 4 and devil may cry are also coming out on the 360 theres no real reason to pick the PS3 over the 360. all the football games are running at 30 fps on the PS3 and 60 on the 360, multi-format titles are generally better on the 360 due do it being the lead sku and so programmed with 360 hardware in mind, there are more varied, better and a larger quantity of games on the 360 and that doesnt look like its going to change any time soon. its not a hard decision
oh and Jay what are you talking about, ‘true hd’ ?! the premium and elite skus of the 360 both have HDMI now
As a ex-Xbox 360 owner, and a new PS3 owner, I have no regrets. Blu-Ray is awesome! But I will have to say that I was playing on a CRT TV with my Xbox, and recent bought a Samsung 46in LCD and because of that, I went with the PS3 for Blu-Ray and future games.
Iy’s a tough call, both have there ups and downs:
xbox 360: ups are the amount of games out now, and what you get to play THIS year, and now. Halo 3, bioshock, mass effect, just for starters.
As far as the hardware issues, since they are out there, i can only suggest advice: invest in a plan the store u buy from offers (may not be available in your location), or plan to wait for your repair. Buy an intercooler/fan (one of the pelican USB ones, never trusted the nyko that accepts the input from the power cable. Also look at your setup and see if there is a different place for the 360 to sit that will mask noise more.
PS3: Get this if you want to watch blu ray till the end of the year, and then start playing games (unless your hardcore genres are FPS and motocross right now). Also, be prepared to wait increasingly longer periods of time for the games you want to play. I was interested in lair, which was supposed to come out this summer, but got pushed to the holidays, and GTA IV, and a number of other titles.
Be prepared for the convenience and pain of bluetooth. The controllers have gotten better, but there were numerous issues reported and still occasional reports of the things losing connections during games (some people still complain, but it seems to have lessened, apathy or fixed?). Also remember the number of different issues the PS2 had and still has, as it is what dreams may come for the PS3 hardware wise.
Also, just because it doesn’t “break”, doesn’t mean it doesn’t lock up. I frequent game stores constantly and have only seen the PS3 working twice. Since I go twice a month at least, thats quite a few times. I have also had my friends that bought one tell me that they have had it lock up in games multiple times (just like a 360 can).
Another thing to remember is that consumer electronics usually are solid (especially if thats all that a company makes), so you MOST LIKELY won’t have the PS3 “break” on you, but if it does, and it is outside of the warranty period, Sony does have a good track record of not caring. This is where the peace of mind of the 3 year warranty comes into play. As much as people complain, the program seems almost like something Apple Computer has done for its repair extension programs. The point of these programs is admitting that there is an issue, and then the hard part is biting the bullet and creating a repair program to help the people that bought the product. Apple has had the best customer service 7 years and the highest repair markings for almost as long (even with these repair extension programs in place).
As far as xbox live, and the previous guys comments, when my first 360 broke (I’m on my 2nd, I had one of those plans I was talking about so they just swapped it out) the items that had to be redownloaded were linked to my xbox live account, and available for download again. So if he wanted to, he cold get the items back (at least in the US, I don’t live in Canada). Also, don’t expect to see sony catching up to xbox live. Sony = hardware, Microsoft = Software. The only things missing from xbox live are the things not enough people have asked for.
Do you have enough games to slate your thirst? Are the games that your playing the ones you already beat? Do you buy a games console to play games or to watch movies, or both? Do you have an HDTV?
The games will eventually comes out on the PS3 that make the investment worth it, but most of them won’t be this year. Also, developers seem to be splitting on who thinks the PS3 is “easy” to program for. With development costs for the 360 paling in comparison to the stellar amount that has to be paid for the PS3 version of any game, we will start to see less of the smaller studios releasing on the platform, just because they can’t afford to make a 2nd game from the ground up (b/c if they don’t, the games don’t look good).
To end this, I wanted to tell you that I will eventually get a PS3, after 2 things happen: the price is 400 or lower, and a game that I can’t play on the 360 comes out that drops my jaw. I don’t care if there is a blu ray player or not, sony is punishing me for them wanting to “future proof” their console. It has no bearing, and soon the 360 will allow hard drive use for their games (sorry core users, it will happen eventually, get a HD), we will see many of the huge differences between the consoles go away, and here is why:
At the core of the 360’s are 3 3.2GHz G5 power PC processors. If you don’t know what those are, they are the old processors from Mac’s (see apple). What many people forget, is that these are the processors that many game dev houses use to make games, and that in that case they can be written easier for use of the processors.
At the core of the PS3 is the cell, which originally was 1 3.2GHz G5 power pc processor, and 7 custom processors that receive commands from mister G5. That may sound like apples to apples, but its far from it. The capabilities of using 8 processors is a massive amount of data can be processed, but it also means that you have to write special things like “this process goes to sub processor one, and has to wait until sub processor 2 finishes its job before going to the next instruction set”. That is a daunting task for someone, and starts to make sense on why blu ray is necessary now: they couldn’t fit games for the PS3 on DVD9 simply because the instruction set is too massive.
Don’t get me wrong, I think its great, but it is another thing that is gonna make me not able to play games on their console soon, since the 360 version is generally done before the PS3.
I hope I didn’t babble to much for you, and I hope this helps.
dude,wtf.ps3 for sure.for just $20 more u will get a blu ray player which has already won the next hd format.i was owner of both the console (360 nad ps3).i sold my 360 on craigslist coz i found most of the 360 exclusive can be played on my p.c for free without paying the live fee.(like gears of war, bioshock, almost all the 360 games.)but u cant play ps3 game on pc right”.
and from my experince i loved halo 1,2 but now halo 3 is like same experince with better graphic and sound.and ppl say there is no any halo killer ,well there is on august 28 that game is warhawk.i was on the beta test and seriously i stopped playing halo 2 after the online fun i got from warhawk.its a killer ace game for sony.about not having enough game on ps3 i did agree 6 months ago but i do have plenty of game to play now.well this is just my thought about games and ps3.i dont wanna piss some 360 fanboy.
