Nintendo Vs Apple: Oh this should be fun. You have had giants Sony and Microsoft going head to head in the next generation console war with Nintendo going head to head with them which has been pretty exciting but no where as exciting as this.
Big boys Nintendo will go head to head with even bigger boys Apple (oh man let the fight begin, so I am a sucker for a war between two massive companies). It has been said that Nintendo and giants Apple may be having a showdown in the handheld gaming industry market.
Nintendo have moved in for a patent for a stunning tilt sensitivity technology on the DS which come on will be pretty cool and of which will make the DS into some sort of portable Wii, but and a big but this new set up seem s to be pretty similar to that of the motion based accelerometer in the iPhone and Apple are too working very fast to add games to their hyped phone.

Nintendo - it’s obvious. Apple has almost no experience in the gaming market and is terrible at advertising to the wider comunity (hence the fact that most of you are probably using Microsoft software right now). This in contrast to one of the longest standing video game companies in the world who have been putting lots of work in recent years into not only appealing to the gaming community but expanding the size of that comunity. I love Apple, it’s a great company that produces excellent technology but I just don’t think it stands a chance; however were I not a much bigger Nintendo fanboy, I would say good luck to them and challenge them to prove me wrong.
Nintendo’s DS is $125. Apple’s iPhone is over $400. I think Apple will do well in its niche, but Nintendo will be the more popular.
SpiderFreak,
Though this is purely speculation at this point, (as to whether Apple is planning to go into the hand held gaming market) the fact that Apple had no experience in the cell phone market was the same arguments that pundits were making earlier this year.
If Apple were to enter the hand held gaming market, no one knows if the platform they’d use would be the iPhone.
I would go further to say that it would be more likely that if Apple were to enter the gaming market, it would be more likely to approach through the console market via AppleTV, which at this point seem to be the only reasonable approach.
At any rate, they may or may not enter the gaming market at all. Any allusion to such, is still purely speculation.
Apple terrible at advertiser? Are you sure were talking about the same company?
Nintendo, hands down. The main reason? Nintendo doesn’t limit it’s consumer base to AT&T wireless subscribers.
Nintendo doesn’t have to lose — for Apple to win.
Sometimes I think Nintendo would be the most likely of candidates to partner with Apple to provide games (such as the older gamecube and n64 wares they sell as downloads for the wii)
I’m a fan of both but when Steve Jobs made the comment that they’re got a system to compete against the giants in the (portable) gaming industry I laughed. But when I looked at some basic hardware specs ( http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/nintendo-dsi-vs-psp-3000-vs-ipod-touch-v1-0/ )
I realized the iPhone/iPod Touch actually have a decent system to compete with! But it always comes down to games. Apple just doesn’t make games… they’d be be better off porting Nintendo/Sony games and snap a piece of the market. It’s still an ipod first and foremost; gaming is just a bonus feature, but obviously one they plan to build upon.
Knowing Apple, look at this as a foundation to test the Gaming Industry without getting embarrassed. There’s no better way to research than to dive right in to get results. I’d wager Apple will formally put out a portable gaming device once they know there’s room for market growth.
Short answer: Ultimately, there’s no point comparing the two since Apple doesn’t make games (yet).
