Live-Action Voltron film looks set to go

New Regency is close to deal with the Mark Gordon Company to bring Voltron: Defender of the Universe to the big screen. The live-action project was in development since 2004 but is now fast-tracked due to the success of Michael Bay’s Transformers.
The animated television series was popular in the 1980’s and will probably do very well when it hit’s the cinemas. Justin Marks (He-Man) penned the screenplay which is described as a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico. “Five ragtag survivors of an alien attack come together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth’s Invaders.”
Marks is also currently working on SuperMax and a new version of Street Fighter.
This movie could be very cool indeed, as long as it isn’t aimed primarily at little children. I think, like Transformers, the audience should be for anybody and everybody as the concept of this film could prove very successful indeed.
