Do you know 40% of PS3 owners have no clue it has Blu-ray

PS3 Blu-ray
Now this is one for the books, now you can call you totally thick or that PS3 owners are just total gamers and do not give a damn about Blu-ray. According to a new study about 40% pf you Playstation owners have no clue that the console plays Blu-ray discs, and what makes me laugh is that we have had nothing but advertisements and announcements that this is the only console that has Blu-ray.

I believe that Sony have done their job and cannot stress more than enough in the advert campaigns that it does have it, so this leaves me with one question to ask.

Do you really give a damn if the PS3 has Blu-ray or not? And “Are you aware that the PS3 has blu-ray?

This has nothing to do with whether PS3 owners “give a damn” about Blu-Ray, it only concerns whether they’re aware it’s a feature of their machine. Let’s face it - Joe Public is A Bit Thick about technology, and most of them wouldn’t know Hi-Def if you slapped ‘em round the chops with a BD copy of “Apocalypto”. It doesn’t mean they don’t care, they just can’t be arsed to read the manual or even the side of the box. They’re most likely to find out by being repeatedly told by a mate who knows a techno-nerd who told them one day. I know people who gave up on a video game because they found it too hard - they hadn’t read the game manual so were unaware of what the buttons did. I ask you! Gordon F Bennet!

I have had a PS3 since the UK lauch and I’m well aware of the blu-ray capaillities. I mean they send you 007 Casino Royale for free when you register with PS Network. I’ve just bought 300 (US version) which is region free and plays on UK PS3s and I’ve got to say in 1080p it look amazing.

I was shocked when I went to buy a blu ray in Tescos and the cashier had to get the disc, they had no idea what blu ray was, they thought it was a new games console and that they had release a game of Hostel. In time as HD TVs become more common people will start to realise the advantages and sheer quality of blu ray over DVD. I commend Sony for their forthought in building a blu ray player into the PS3.

Another idiotic comment from the blog author.

Sony have infact done a bad job of showing the PS3 features. All PS3 adverts have been stylised movie affairs, none of them showing the PS3’s capabilities.

That said, I also think the report is crap, I would say at least 90% of PS3 owners know their system plays Blu-Ray.

The author of the report is obviously on the Toshiba/Microsoft payroll.

I suppose many PS3 owners may just be gamers who don’t really care for movies. But if you like movies Blu-Ray is the way to go, holding double the amount of data as HD DVD blu ray stand to be more future proof and as stebo says it is great that Sony have included a blu ray player in the PS3. I have also bought the US (NTSC) version of 300 and can play it on my UK (PAL) PS3, I don’t have a 1080p TV but it looks damn fine in 720p and the sound quality in 5.1 is unreal. Sony you are the best.

Sounds like Sony has been selling on the back of their brand name after all. I cannot believe so many people would buy such an expensive bit of kit and not have a clue what its main capabilities are.

    I honestly couldn’t give a crap about blu-ray as I don’t have a HD TV. That’s why I’ve still got a PS2 and a Wii (for now).

“The author of the report is obviously on the Toshiba/Microsoft payroll.” …that’s right its all a conspiracy man! lol

How can anybody not know it has BluRay when the games are on BluRay discs?

    This is total nonsense.

Even if this stats are true its means BluRay is being a huge success because this report says that 20% of PS3 users are using it to watch BluRay films regularly.

So 40% of PS3’s were bought (instead the other consoles) without the customer knowing about the main feature. Good marketing???
For me bluray was a clear cut selling point that sealed the deal.

I’m still shocked by the figures.
