JJ Abrams has finally announced more cast details for his upcoming Star Trek movie after we were all disappointed at Comic Con when he only confirmed two bits of news: Zachary Quinto would play a younger Spok in the prequel, while Leonard Nimoy himself will don the pointy ears one final time for flash-forward sequences.
Today is has been announced that the original Starship Enterprise has got its young navigator -Russian ensign, Pavel Chekov, with Anton Yelchin filling the role of Walter Koening.
Yelchin has been quietly making a name for himself in films such as Alpha Dog, Hearts of Atlantis and as the lead in Charlie Bartlett. His role in Star Trek is very well deserved in my opinion.
Casting is currently underway in New York and London for the rest of the movie’s major roles, which include Bones, Uhura, Sulu and Captain James T. Kirk who is expected to be played by a major Hollywood player, though not Matt Damon as the recent gossip mongers have been saying.
There’s plenty of time until Abrams starts filming Star Trek so anything could happen. The film has a Christmas 2008 release date in mind so keep it locked at product reviews for the latest Star Trek movie news.
