Fiat and Chery deal is official: Alfa Romeo and Fiat vehicles for sale in China

Italian car maker Fiat and Chinese car maker Chery joint venture is now official, so now the two automakers will now work on a project to build Fiat and Alfa Romeo vehicles for the Chinese market. It seem that the two companies will work very closely with each other, especially as Fiat will be using engines that are manufactured by Chery, for use in their own cars to help cut costs.

Both Fiat and Chery hope to build at least 175,000 each year which will be for sale in China by 2009. Chery will have to work flat out as they still have to produce 100,000 1.6 and 1.8L engines that will be used in Fiats vehicles in China.

Sergio Marchionne, Fiat Chief has said that this move will help to turn Alfa into a global brand.
