Wikipedia Founder, Jimmy Wales, Refuses To Comprimise Like Google, Yahoo
By: Daniel Chubb | August 7, 2007 | Leave a CommentThe creator of the well-known open-source encylcopedia, Wikipedia, has recently exclaimed that he will not remove some search results for China, even though China have completely blocked Wikipedia from their servers. This seems like one step forward and two steps back if you ask me, as China are currently the second largest group of web users in the world, roughly 110 million, second only to the United States.
Google were once in a similar situation and comprimised accuracy in their search results so that they could be part of China’s society, which was a good move in my opinion. “While removing search results is inconsistent with Google’s mission, providing no information (or a heavily degraded user experience that amounts to no information) is more inconsistent with our mission” said Google.
What do you think? Smooth move? Or arrogant mistake?
