Oscar Winning director Sydney Pollack has withdrawn from his latest project due to illness. Pollack, 73, won Academy awards for his amazing work on Out of Africa and was due to start work on the political drama Recount in the autumn.
The film, about the lives of ordinary people caught up in the ballot recounts in Florida at the end of the 2000 US presidential race will now be directed by Jay Roach - director of comedies such as Meet the Parents and Austin Powers.
We’ve got no word on exactly what is wrong with Sydney but Leslie Dart, his representative has said, “He’s got some medical issues. He’s not feeling well right now. It would be unrealistic for him to go into production right away.”
A spokeswoman for producers at HBO have said Pollack will remain part of the project as one of it’s executive directors.
Our thoughts go out to Sydney and his family and hope he gets well soon.
