John Moore is the likeable Irish director who made a great remake of The Omen last year. After the movie, he had said he was taking some time off to recharge his batteries but today it’s been announced that he’s back with a project that in on the thin line between cool and downright weird.
Virulents is based on the Virgin Comics title, and will tell the tale of two groups of soldiers - some American, some Indian - who cross paths while on duty in Afghanistan and they stumble on a whole load of hostile vampire zombies.
Moore hasn’t really made a huge dent in Hollywood and doesn’t really trouble the critics much. His hyper-kinetic shooting style will suit Virulents down to the ground and it’ll be refreshing for him to do something that isn’t a remake.
New Regency has optioned the comic book for 20th Century Fox to distribute and John Cox will be writing the script. Moore will co-produce alongside Seth Jaret and Virgin Comics’ Sharad Davarajan and Gotham Chopra, who ensures us that Virulents is “going to rock”.
