Facebook Faces Another Lawsuit

Now social networking website Facebook is not only dealing with the ConnectU lawsuit, they now have another one to deal with.

This lawsuit is over U.S. Patent 6,519,629 (”System for creating a community for users with common interests to interact in”), and has been brought by Cross Atlantic Capital Partners.

Cross Atlantic Capital Partners filed the patent in 2003 and now they are targeting Facebook over “infringement” issues, demanding royalties from Facebook.

Do think that this Facebook lawsuit will be successful?

I lost contact with old friends from high school and I think facebook is a save place for kids parents to go and socialize and see what other people are doing. I really enjoy facebook and I wouldn’t know what I would do without it. Facebook is very addicting, and if you shut down facebook. Well your ruining the people of this world’s life including your kids, because I am pretty sure everyone HAS a facebook!

This is retarded… Myspace was launched on February, 1999 (according to a quick wikipedia check). This patent for a “System for creating a community for users with common interests to interact in” was filed in 2003, after myspace became popular.

Of course, they’re suing Facebook, not Myspace, but they honestly can’t prove they were the people who originally thought up a “System for creating a community for users with common interests to interact in” when “systems” like that have been in place for years… Plus their patent seems very vague… They have no case…
