Bush paid a visit to the scene of devastation at the Interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis today. After a tour via helicopter, Bush toured the devastation on foot. He was accompanied by Transportation Secretary Mary Peters.
After his tour, Bush vowed to “cut through paperwork” to ensure that the bridge is rebuilt expeditiously.
Bush sent comforting words to the families of the victims as he stated, “I bring prayers from the American people to those who have suffered loss of life as a result of the collapse of the 35W bridge in the Twin Cities. I bring prayers to those who wonder whether they’ll ever see a loved one again.”
At least five are reported dead in the bridge collapse that occurred on Wednesday during rush hour. Roughly 100 people were injured.
