Russia to claim North Pole: Kremlin sends submarine to plant flag in Arctic stunt for oil control

In June we learned that Russia wanted to make claim to the North Pole, this angered many countries but this has not stopped Russia and have now sent a submarine which plans to plant a flag under the North Pole. This is part of the Kremlin’s efforts to lay claim to the arctic which has a massive amount of energy resources.

Arctic explorer Artur Chilingarov, is the veteran explorer who is to descend 14,000 feet into the depths of the sea, and will then drop a Russian tricolor which has been cast in titanium onto the seabed.

Russia has many rivals all have all been eager to grab a piece of the Arctic as it is rich in oil resources, in fact it is thought that the North Pole has at least a quarter of the worlds energy resources which is untapped.

It is believed that there is at least 10 billion barrels of oil at the North Pole.
