Prince Kicks off His 21 Show Stint At The 02 Arena

Prince kicked off his series of shows at London’s 02 arena last night and boy was it good to have him back! Armed with a string of hits and two dancers with very little clothes on, Prince rocked the house!
He began his show with a fantastic rendition of everyone’s favourite classic, Purple Rain. Prince, in-between dancing, singing and playing even made a joke about Madonna, ““I got more hits than Madonna’s got kids”, so there was even some comic relief during the two and a half hour set.

After Prince’s third encore, the crowd began to leave - only to run back to their seats when Prince, who appeared with six burley bouncers in the middle of the auditorium, pushed his way through the audience and returned to the stage to treat fans to solo acoustic versions of Little Red Corvette, Raspberry Beret and Sometimes it Snows in April.
He also covered the amazing Crazy by Gnarls Barkley and Come Together by The Beatles.
Prince doesn’t plan to keep the same set at his shows, he has prepared 150 songs, which he will be playing a section of each night of the tour.
Prince has claimed that this tour will be the last time fans will ever hear him play his greatest hits.
Everyone how attended the gig went home with a copy of Prince’s new album Planet Earth, which he previously gave away free with a UK Sunday Newspaper.
Unlike fellow legend Barbara Streisand, who‘s tickets were in the hundreds, Prince charged a reasonable £31.21, the same figure used by the singer to name his album, website and perfume.

Best show ive ever seen and such a talented man.
Including the band.
the songs he played included:
1999

cream
nothing compares to you
musicology
controversy
you got the look
and many more!
some of the things he shouted out to the audience were:“U’re making me feel 2 good 2nite, London… From the bottom of r hearts, all 21 nights we will give r all.”and “Don’t worry, eye won’t hurt u, eye only want u 2 have some fun….”
He was incredible at playing guitar and also played some bass. their were a few solos from the drummer, Cora and a few from the saxophonist.
The lighting was immense too, if only we could see him more often.
slightly disappointed that we weren’t allowed cameras in so thats why i was looking for photos.
Still, one hell ofan experience.
Awesome concert! I was disappointed when we weren’t allowed to take pictures too. But we figured that the reason they wouldn’t let us was cause they might be making a dvd! That would be so sweet..! That’s just us guessing though..
Have a great day!

Yeh thats exactly what i thought, i mean its a big enough concert! did u buy any merchandise?
you too.
take care
Let’s hope we’re right
I bought the tour book. How about you?
haha yeh lets.
argh, i didnt buy the tour book is it any good?
but i did buy a planet earth tshirt and a pillowcase slip. haha.
It sure is! At first I wanted more pics of Prince in it but after going to the aftershow where it kinda felt like you came even closer to it all and where the band and everything got even more alive the tour book was just perfect!
Did you go to the aftershow?
thats kool, WOW! YOU WENT TO THE AFTERSHOW!!!!!!!omg! I really wanted to, but thing is i live like 4 hours away from the arena and the show finished about 11 so i wouldnt of got home till early in the morning and im not old enough anyway.
which is a reaaallll shame.
hopefully in 2 years time he’ll do some more, but i doibt it to be honest.
Or he might have some sort of health problemby then, or retire. i mean, its not like he needs any more money!
haha
oh btw, what songs did they play at the aftershow?
did u get prince to sign your programme or did he just stay on stage?
where there many people?
It was GREAT!
He started off with Empty room, and then he and the band just had this great jamming session where they played and played lots of funky tracks, he’s just amazing! I’m sad to say that I didn’t write it all down as fast as I should have, but some clever fellow did write about it just after coming back from the party, if you check this page: http://prince.org/msg/12/239645?jump=47&pg=2
you’ll find a better review and the set list. But oh, it sure was amazing, he played Love is a losing game and Shelby did the singing! And he started playing when you where mine but then all of a sudden he just goes “No, you’re nor ready for this” and then he never played it. Soo sad! But hey, I’m happy anyways, it was a truly unforgettable evening…I mean..WOW! You should have been there! Didn’t mean to rub it in there, sorry
Of course he’ll still be playing in two years! I don’t think that man will ever retire! No, more money is not what he needs but I don’t think he’s in it for the money, he just loves the music why else would he give away his new album the way he did? I mean, the man IS music!
No, I’m pretty sure he’ll still be playing in two years, and ten.
Actually, I bought the tour book after the aftershow, just before we went back to our hotel so I didn’t get it signed. But he just stayed on stage anyways, and after the show he kind of disappeared.. I can’t believe he played for two hours! We got out of there sometime around 3:30am, all giggly and smiling : )
O right! The “Many ppl?” question. Noo..I was so surprised, I had read that the Indig02 had room for like 2500 ppl, but it only felt like maybe 500 in there, but like it still was crowded at the beginning, really weird actually.. But I didn’t mind, and sometime before the last half hour we found this big gap in the crowd on the right side where we came reeeally close to the stage! I’m not sure I’ve actually come to my sences again after this experience, you know, it feels like it’s not quite real, as if you’ve watched soo many live dvd’s and this was perhaps another one of them, cause you recognize the clothes and the man on stage and you just can’t believe that you’re really there!
Wow, that’s one long comment…
I hope I answered some of your questions!
Good night
WOW!sounds like youve had an amazing time and an experience of a life time.
Ill check out the page should be pretty awesome.
Yeh still, must of been a great night just for seeing the man even closer.
