With all the music and video files that we like so save on our PS3, the tiny 20 GB or 60 GB seems very small. So here we have a very simple guide in how to swap and upgrade you Playstation 3 Hard Drive, and believe it or not it is far easier than you think.
The first thing that you need to is plug in an external hard drive so you can save or your data backed up in the PS3 hard drive.
Once the external hard drive is plugged in, you then need to turn your PS3 on and go to the saved data utility.
You then need to select the external hard drive as the destination as to where you want to saved data to be extracted too.
The files will then copy over, easy as that.
Once your files have finished transferring over, you then need to turn off the PS3 and unplug everything. Then turn the PS3 over and pull of the plastic cap labeled HDD.
You then need to use a husky precision screwdriver, and then remove the blue screw which will detach the Hard Drive from the console. The using the metal paperclip tab, slide it and then pull it too one side and pull the hard drive out.
The next step is to remove the metal shield that is on the hard drive, and then remove the two screws which are on the same side of blue screws.
Once these screws have been removed the hard drive should slide away from the metal shield, that’s it for the tiny hard drive.
Then get your new hard drive and reverse what you have just done. Although your PS3 may look the same as any other Playstation 3, but your one has much more storage space now, how cool.
You now need to turn your PS3 back on and format the new hard drive; you will be prompted to do so automatically, just follow what comes on the screen.
Plug the external USB hard drive with all your saved files back into the PS3. Go back to the Saved Data Utility option to copy all your files onto the new PS3 hard drive.
You now need to plug in your external hard drive and go back to the Saved Data Utility, then ask it to copy over all file to PS3.
It’s as easy as that.
