George Miller set to direct the live-action Justice League of America Movie?

Reports have come in that Happy Feet director George Miller has been asked to direct a live-action big screen version of the Justice League of America for Warner Bros. It was assumed that a JLA movie would be years off, but with Warner Bros pushing the development of the movie so early, who knows?
The original Justice League of America superhero team consists of Superman, Batman (who can both still sell movies on their own merit), Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter. It has since grown to include Green Arrow, Atom, Hawkman, Black Canary, Captain Marvel, Plastic Man, Zatanna and others.
If the Superman and Batman movies still bring in megabucks at the box office, why is the project’s development being pushed so early? Surely a JLA movie would be the last resort? With George Miller, who is an award winning Hollywood Veteran, directing it’s hard to not be excited about this movie. Millers credits include Mad Max, The Witches of Eastwick, Twilight Zone: The Movie and everyone’s favourite: Babe.
The project was announced in February 2007 when it was reported that Kiernan and Michele Mulroney were hired to write a big screen Justice League of America movie.
Previously, we were told that both Christian Bale (Batman Begins) and Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) have contract options to star in a Superman vs. Batman movie which I’m sure Warner’s legal team could spin that stipulation into the JLA project.
The studio is currently trying to green light a Wonder Woman film, which I assume the lead lady’s contract will also include a JLA option.
I hope that the JLA movie materialises into something, as I believe that it will be one heck of a movie.
