Federal agents has carried out raids in the US against mod-chippers

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents have carried out a series of raids across the US, Federal agents targeted the import, distribution, and sale of console mod chips in this massive operation named “Operation Tangled Web” that covered 16 states.

32 search warrants were issued for the operation, which involved Federal agents from 22 offices; the enforcement agents also received help from the gaming industry.

The involvement of console-modding has cost the gaming industry millions of dollars, and those who have been engaged in the import, distribution, sale, and installation of mod chips for games consoles were all hit in these raids. These mod-chips have been widely used for years for the PlayStation 2, Nintendo Wii, Xbox, and Xbox 360.

We know that mod-chippers have been engaged in this dodgy business for years, but is it a sign that the gaming industry should bring prices down?

People will always break the law to get something for nothing, most of the time that something they wouldn’t pay for no matter how cheap.

To imply that game prices should come down because it’s leading to people with less money stealing is madness. Game prices and quality are like most industries tied to consumer demand. If prices are too high people won’t buy them, if prices come down then quality soon follows.
