It has now been confirmed that the new Xbox 360 Elite is to get a second heatsink. Having two heatsinks will prevent the games console from overheating. This should sort the Red Ring of Death problem out.
This is not great news for people who have the standard Xbox 360, for those who going to purchase the new Elite from Microsoft then the news is great. The second heat sink will help to boost the stability.
My brother wanted to purchase a console last week, I told him to wait for the Xbox 360 Elite, but he went against my advice and purchased a standard Xbox 360. With this news he must be feeling pretty sick with himself right now.

Ok Ok bruv
So i am impatient, but i still do not think i made the wrong choice for the reason i got my console with headphones, wireless controller, and 2 games which were Forza 2 and GRAW 2 which are fantastic games. When you buy the Elite you will not get the same deal for the same price and i know that for a fact.

I finally get it!!!
Microsoft has some harcdore fan boys, sell crappy xbox 360 to them, then it say all the originals have problems, they must buy the elite, so the hard boy fans go and buy their 2nd console, inflating the xbox sales numbers…
Pretty much like they do scratching disc, and forze buying the same game 2 or more times, inflating the atach rate of the console.
They can scream how they got the largest market share and the best game atach rate, but just are shadow numbers.
My bet is from the 10 millions xbox microsoft selled, 1/3 are in the garbage, another 1/3 are in repair and the rest are being played by lucky customers, but eventually good luck evaporate.
Hardcore fan boys, get prepared, when microsoft release “falcon” they will sey that it is ok, its the one you must buy, the original and elite was crap… not a lie, just until they realese the next revision.

The Xbox 360 with hd dvd cost more the the PS3 w/ Blu-ray. Looks like Blu-ray is winning the format battle and may make hd dvd go the way of the Betamax. Throw in the known problems of Xbox along with the noisy, shoddy design and build quality, why would anyone buy this soon to be retired console?

If just adding another heat sink could solve the RROD problem, M$ would do it two years ago. This is just a PR smoking screen campaign. Time will tell. Good luck, Xbots. U will need it when Halo3 come out.

M$ are adding these new heatsinks to all 360’s that are being repaired too.
Not great i know. I had to wait just over a month to get mine back. But at least its now free to do this as the warranty is 3 years.
I think they have done this to sort out everyone whos got an original 360. If theirs break then they will get one with the new heatsinks as a replacement.
Also if your brother just got his he too might have the heatsinks and they have been making 65nm chips for the last 2 quaters. He could have one of those meaning he should be fine anyway (thats if its a heat issue in the first place)

ok, so they added an extra heat sink to solve the RROD prob? thats strange because my first elite got the RROD two days after i bought it, but hey what do i know, im just a consumer(rolls eyes)

@greg, MS has not started to implement the 65nm chips yet, they are producing them, but they have yet to be placed in actual consoles

YOU MUST HAVE GOT THE OLD VERSION OF THE 360 ELITE
“My first elite got the RROD two days after i bought it, but hey what do i know ??”
MAKE SURE IN THE FUTURE, YOU GET THE ELITE’S ELITE with the “Falcon” CHIPS INSIDE TO ENSURE NO RROD WITHIN 3 YEARS

If you guys want a better Xbox360 that might have less of a chance of getting the Red Screen of Death, you might want to wait until next year since the must be putting in the 65nm
‘Jasper’ GPU which is smaller and probably has a less chance of getting the Red Screen of Death.

Plus it should cost less, but it doesnt look like Microsoft
is going to fix the disc draive scratching the discs, which is sad.
