George Lucas and Steven Spielberg has promised us for months that Sean Connery’s character, Dr. Henry Jones Sr., was included in the script for Indiana Jones 4. Well, Mr. Connery had announced he will not be returning to the movie when it was already in production.
It would have been impossible for Lucas to completely delete Sean Connery’s part without causing a major rift. FilmIck are reporting that Abner Ravenwood wasn’t even included in previous drafts. It was only when Connery announced his departure that we were told John Hurt had been cast in the film.
Rumours are rife in Hollywood that John Hurt’s character is just a rewrite of the role Sean Connery would have played had he returned. Apparently screenwriters wrote the role for two characters in case Connery didn’t want to play.
Hmm, sounds like a normal bad Hollywood head decision that can only lead to a ruined film. Don’t get me wrong, John Hurt is an amazing actor but he ain’t no Sean Connery! Dr Henry Jones Sr. will be sorely missed in Indy 4.
