Breakdown of Sony PS3 vs Xbox 360 peripherals: Chris tries to sway opinions

This comment was made by Chris on a post that was just a question from someone who loves their Xbox 360 but just had one problem.
What started off as a little question to solve a problem, ended up turning more into a debate again on the Sony PS3 vs the Xbox 360 as always.
We saw one comment from Chris that highlighted the Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 peripherals, in this comment Chris tries to sway opinions (not likely).
Here is the comment by Chris:
Mark, your first comment adressed to Ricky didn’t make much sense at all. No offense, but the failure rate doesn’t necessarily increase with how recently the console launched. To tell you the truth, the Xbox 360 has a much higher chance of breaking down than the Playstation 3, and even Microsoft acknowledges that. Now, I’m not going to get into mindless, non-intellectual talk like “Teh Xb0x 360 pwns!” or “Da SuxB0x 36o suxorz!!1!”, but when you actually take some time to look into the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 peripherals, the PS3 is an amazing console.
First off, a comment like “If you only looking for gaming, graphics, great choice of games and online gaming then there is no way anything will beat the Xbox 360.” is completely ludicrous. Let’s compare the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 first, then the Elite to be fair.
Graphics:
The Playstation 3 is a powerhouse, and focuses greatly on graphics. It’s highest resolution is 1080p, ready since launch, whereas the Xbox 360 was only capable of 1080i until a recent update. Next, the Playstation 3 has an HDMI output, while you can only get that otherwise by buying an Xbox 360 Elite. The PS3’s HDMI out port is v 1.3, a significantly higher quality than the Elite’s v 1.2, although the .1 difference may seem insignificant at a glance. Right there, the Playstation 3 beat both Xbox 360s.
Cost:
Right now, the premium Playstation 3 costs $499. The premium Xbox 360 costs $399. Let’s make the characteristics even, by comparing the features.
Standard Hard Drive. Playstation 3: 60GB Xbox 360: 20GB
The Playstation 3 has an upgradeable internal hard drive, allowing the user to add any compatible hard drive, such as the 200GB I upgraded to recently. For the Xbox 360, you need a Microsoft-made hard drive that only comes in 20 or 120GB.
Controller:
The Playstation 3 can use up to 7 wireless controllers, while the Xbox 360 can use only 4 wireless controllers. The PS3 has motion-sensitive Sixaxis controllers, yet the Xbox 360 was confined to wired controllers at launch.
Headset:
The Playstation 3 can use any Bluetooth or USB headset. The Xbox 360 uses the provided Microsoft headset, but other headsets are possible if you can try to get them to work hard enough.
Cost:
Playstation 3: $499. Let’s make the two even.
Xbox 360: $399.99
120GB Hard Drive: $179.99
Xbox Live Gold: $49.99 annually
Wireless Adapter: $99.99
High Definition DVD Player: $179.99 with the price drop.
All of this comes to $909.95. You could have gotten all of this in a Playstation 3 for $499, but the extra $410 to an Xbox 360 doesn’t hurt, right?
There’s lots of other aspects to add, as well. Playstation 3 users enjoy their consoles more, and use them more than the average Xbox 360 user. Studies show that the average Playstation 3 session is 83 minutes long, while the average session for the Xbox 360 is only 61 minutes. Like others have said, the 360 failure rate is between 30-50%, the PS3’s is 1-2%, etc.
So, have any opinions been swayed with the truth?

Just so you know, Oblivion and Madden are also on the 360 and came out first on the 360 just like 90% of PS3 games. and when compared to the 2 systems, xbox 360 was shown to have the superior version always even though it came out first. Just look at the recent review for PS3’s Rainbow 6 Vegas. Sony betted too high on brand recognition and over promise and has yet to deliver anything remotely innovative.
As for the games just look at this list and tell me what side you want to be on.

Man…you need to get some friends (I don’t mean this in a “mean spirited way”)
Rainbow six Vegas is waaaay too much fun with co-op play. You’re missing out (really)
Bleem is right, 3 of those games are on the 360…and was released a LONG time before the PS3. Oblivion had an additional year of development time before appearing on the PS3…and there’s still plenty of debate if it’s better than the 360 counter-part.
btw, Command and Conquer is better than Battle for middle Earth (IMO). The controls just feel more natural.
You’re paying for GOLD, but not playing multiplayer…well it still has its advantages. (early access to some content)
Have you ever loved a product or service and thought to youself “man, I’d pay a little extra $$ if they would include (or do) ”
That’s WHY XBL is so good. We’re all chippin’ in about $4 a month. Just follow all of the TONS of stuff that gets added EVERYDAY
http://www.majornelson.com
You’re helping pay for all the bandwidth of all the Demos…trailers, and other free stuff that gets added all the time. (not to mention the robust dashboard updates)
This is why Sony has openly remarked that charging for PSN is a possibility.
@Bleem
Yea, I think you’re right about no one buying sonic. I bought Oblivion for the PS3 before I had a 360. I put off buying a 360 for a while because of the hardware reliability issues.
@Greeter
I used to play halo 2 online alot, and then I started playing something else I don’t remember and I haven’t played online since. I know I’ll play online with Halo 3 and Fable 2, and $50/year isn’t that bad, but free is better. I think sony could still charge money for online and even though Playstation network is not as robust as live, it could become more comparable.
If sony stepped up and said starting January 1, 2008 the playstation network will no longer be free, it will be $20-$25 a year and each game you buy will give you an additional 2-3 months of service (depending on licensing fees and things of that nature) that is added on to the end of your service. So to alot of gamers would still get the service for free if they bought 4-6 games a year.
Now I don’t think sony would do anything like that, but since sony isn’t hosting the online games they don’t need as much bandwidth and server space.
I haven’t really seen a robust dashboard update. I had my 360 before the spring update this year, but I didn’t really notice much that changed. I do with I could get to the dashboard to see if friends are online while playing an orginal xbox game.
I have noticed updates to the XMB, while they have been huge, there has been some additions. A couple updates ago streaming media from a pc has become an obvious addition. Background downloading was something else that has been added.
I know the 360 can do these things but these are noticable additions, and there are some people out there that would look at these features and say that they are way late with them and copying microsoft. But if you want to go with copying the d-pad was invented a long time ago and I see it on my controllers, as were the joysticks. In this day and age parity is key. That is a detriment to releasing early. You will get a head start on sales, but you may lose some competitive advantage because competitors see what people do/don’t like and change change accordingly.
Ok I think I can clear it up a little more. First of I have both systems and plan on buying the Wii. I also own every other console from all three companies. I prefer my PS3 over my 360, and I’ll tell you why. First of all the Blu-Ray Drive isn’t just for watching movies, which no one has bothered to mention, it gives developers much more to work with. They won’t admit it but Rockstar could’ve sone a lot more for GTA IV with the PS3’s Blu-Ray drive if they hadn’t gone multiplatform.
Second, also something no one has mentioned is the PSP PS3 interconnectivity. I love being able to acces all the content in my PS3 from anywhere in my house or any wi-fi hotspot in the world for that matter, and now that you can also stream content from the PC with my PS3 it also means that I can Access it with my PSP from any hotspot in the world. To me that’s a big deal.
The other thing is Home, I’m in the closed beta right now and I gotta say that I love it, I was acctually a little skeptic at first but it is a great addition to the PS3 functionality. I had zero pople on my friends list before I got home and now I have close to fourty. In home I can interact with people that I might’ve never met otherwise. These are just points that no one else touched on.
As far as games go, yeah the 360 has more games but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are better games. I only have to games for my 360 and plan on buying two more before the end of the year. Halo 3 and Bioshock. I plan on buying several games for my PS3 Heavenly Sword, Haze, Unreal Tournament 3, Lair and Uncharted all of which are top notch titles plus Assassins Creed which is multiplatform. That’s another thing any game that ships multiplatform I’m buying for the PS3 because I’m not paying MS to play on-line. Someone who posted before me talked about getting titles way after the 360 got them well I just listed some multiplatform titles that you will have to wait for while I enjoy them on my PS# Haze and Unreal Tournament 3, and even when you do get UT3 you will not have access to user created content like the PS3 and PC users will. Take all that and the ability to store content on my PS3 and being able to put in any compatible HDD and the PS3 comes out on top every time. Oh and keep dreaming about getting MGS4 and Final Fantasy XIII.
@Stephen
Yeah, your right. “Robust” isn’t exactly the word to use.
Although I can still surf the internet through my 360 - and stream avi/divx video…it needs to be tightly integrated with the Dashboard.
>>…and $50/year isn’t that bad, but free is better
I completely disagree with that. I’ve been burned by too many “free” services. 99/100 - you get what you pay for.
As far as major services “copying” one another…I have NO problem with that. Make these corporate giants innovate! I want them to try to stand out…and then…I want them to copy each other on what works! (we all win that way).
The PSN doesn’t get near the demos and trailers as the Marketplace. They need to charge - this funds their division, and creates a focus group accountable for progressive content.
to the person that felt it prudent to list that erroneous list, 90 percent of that list is multiplatform or false(ie: umm 360 does not get a collectors edition of stranglehold)
and wow, you actually list a collection of board games? lol, seriouly, all the 360 has THAT IS EXCLUSIVE, is halo 3, mass effect and bioshock, thats all, oh wait i forgot scene it, lolo lololololol
my ps3 has lair, heavenly sword, uncharted, ratchet, killzone 2, mgs4, final fantasy, plus all the games you mentioned, moron oh and how could i forget: LITTLEBIGPLANET
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
FOR ALL YOU HATERS OUT THERE, ITS TIME TO PUT YOUR LEVELS UP OR SHUT UP!
WHAT, YOU CANT SURF THE NET ON THE 360, UNLESS YOU MOD IT AND VOID THE WARRANTY
HEY CHARLES, MAYBE IF YOU ASK A QUESTION LIKE “look at this list and tell me what side you want to be on” YOU SHOULD MAKE IT A 2 SIDED LIST, NOT ONE SIDED, GOD, YOU BLITHERING MORON, THE AUTHOR IS LESS BIAS THAN YOU
@hoser
Yes, you can surf the internet. Like I said before, it’s not integrated in the 360. You can install an add-on for Windows Multimedia 2005 (or higher).
There isn’t any “modding” involved. Why would I void a 3 year warrantee?
My first response to this article pretty much covers any responses that people like you make. You’re too predictable.
Halo 3, Mass Effect, BioShock…
What!? You didn’t mention Gears of War?? OH….because it’s not coming to the PC.
What!? You didn’t mention Viva Pinata?? OH…because it’s coming to the DS.
You can thank MS for that.
I have ABSOLUTELY no problem with the hottest XBOX 360 games going to the PC.
AND
…the hottest PC games coming over to the XBOX 360.
That is a positive FEATURE of the 360…not a negative.
