Wikipedia To Compete With Google: Named Grub
By: Ryan | July 30, 2007
The founder of the open-source encyclopedia, Wikipedia, has recently unveiled details of his new website named Grub, designed to combine human-assisted editing with computer-controlled searches.
How they will acheive such high goals is beyond me, but Google need to watch out if the idea becomes successful.
After downloading the grub program, the computer’s processing power is made useful while the machine is left idle. If enough people take a liking to this concept, it could potentially be a very dominant aspect of the internet as a whole and even reduce the need for Wikia to set up its own network.
‘If we can get good quality search results, I think it will really change the balance of power from the search companies back to the publishers,’ said a represantative at a conference in Oregon.
