doomsday

Great Britain has been hit by a deadly plague, known as the “Reaper Virus” which has wiped out hundreds of thousands of people in its wake. The government, in sheer desperation, evacuates as many survivors as it can out of the infected area and builds a wall which prevents the remainder of the infected from escaping.

Fast forward thirty years and the wall is still standing and the victims are forgotten. The virus returns, with the government deciding to send a crack team of operatives led by Major Eden Sinclair, into the thick of it in hope of finding a cure.
Not only do they discover survivors, they find that have formed tribes who are at war with each other. It is now a race against time to save the whole country from death.

Director Neil Marshall says of the film, ”Doomsday is hugely inspired by the films I grew up with, post apocalyptic thrillers – Mad Max, Road Warriors. I wouldn’t say it’s a horror movie but I would say it’s a dark and brutal action thriller.” He continues,
“With The Descent we wanted to make a 6 million dollar film look like 30 million. With Doomsday we took a 30 million dollar film and made it look like 100 million. We try to do as much [Special Effects] as possible in camera. We try to keep it real.”

This movie sees the resurrection of post apocalyptic thrillers and with a release date of mid 2008 I can’t wait!
