Computers Vs Humans in Poker: Showdown
By: Daniel Chubb | July 27, 2007 | Leave a CommentWe all know that when it comes to chess or checkers, computers do have the ability to thrash us to their liking. However, when a team of software developers introduced their poker game on an ordinary laptop computer to an poker proffesional, I am proud to say the human won, very narrowly though.
Poker is said to be a more difficult challenge for software designers than games like chess and checkers, which is understandable, because in poker, information is hidden from the players.
The game requires different strategies linked with real human skill to deal with the uncertainties introduced by the hidden cards held by each player, as well as behaviour like bluffing which is incredibly hard to teach a computer.
If we got the world’s biggest pros and placed them against computers in a game of pong, who do you think would win?
