According sources close to the company, Microsoft is planning to ship its next significant version of Windows, known internally as ‘version 7′ and also as ‘Vienna’, within roughly three years.

Whilst the company provided few details, the likelihood of a new operating system, so soon after the disappointing windows vista, seems likely. Apparently, a conference was held in Orlando, on Thursday, to discuss the new Windows.

The company is said to plan a more ‘iterative’ process of information disclosure to business customers and partners, according to reliable sources.

Just like Vista did, Windows 7 is said to ship in consumer and business versions, and in 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

“Microsoft is scoping Windows 7 development to a three-year time frame, and then the specific release date will ultimately be determined by meeting the quality bar,” according to the representative.

Hopefully Windows Version 7 will help the reputation of Microsoft which the mediocre Vista OS seemed to bring down.
What improvements would you make to a new OS?

I thought Vista would be a great improvement, with the security features they were toughting, but alas the only thing the security features caused were headaches and frustration. I can not go to certain web sights because the Data Execution Protection Error arises. You would think that if you choose to go to a web sight there would be the ability to turn off this DEP. I have web sights that I need to go to for my job that are Government owned that this error occurs, come on Microsoft get it together. Fix this!!!!
