A computer program has been developed by a team of researchers that can actually ‘learn’ to decipher words, just like babies do.

The main reason for the development of the program is to create a better understanding as to how people speak and more importantly, how we learn the language in the first place.

According to James McClelland, evidence supports the theory that babies actually learn to speak by sorting through different sounds until they are able to understand the structure of the certain language.

“In the past, people have tried to argue it wasn’t possible for any machine to learn these things,” McClelland said. Advances in understanding how the human body works never ceases to amaze me, what will they discover next?
