Gianfranco Lanci, president of Acer today became the first significantly important PC manufacturer to openly attack Microsoft over their new operating system; Windows Vista.
Acer, based in Taiwan, is the world’s fourth-largest PC manufacturer in line after HP, Dell and Lenovo. Lanci was quoted in the Financial Times, Deutschland saying “The whole industry is disappointed with Windows Vista,” in a carefree manner.
Whilst XP sales continue to sell surprisingly well, almost 50% more than analysts expected, Microsoft claims that most Vista users are satisfied and that nearly all software and hardware is compatible.
Perhaps it is the ever-popular, cheaper computers that consumers are continuing to purchase more and more that worries people about the performance of Vista, with a relatively low spec product?
“I really don’t think that someone has bought a new PC specifically for Vista.” Lanci said.
Microsoft’s popular operating systems hold a market share of around 90 per cent, with Apple and Linux sharing the rest. While the industry had waited many years for Vista, the software was obviously not completely ready when it was launched at the start of this year, Mr Lanci complained.
What do you think of Microsoft’s Vista? Efficient? Impressive? Or a remake of Windows XP with a new theme?
