We know that new cars are getting much safer but one of the major drawbacks of this is that they have to gain a bit of weight. But now Mazda have managed to achieve something that many other car makers find hard. The new hot supermini Mazda2 has lost weight.
The Mazda2 has lost about 100kg, the Mazda2 1.3L weighs 955kg, while the Mazda21.5L version weighs only 960kg. Do not think for one minute that as this supermini has lost weight, that it has lost strength. Weight savings have been made by reducing the weight of things like the front seats, front speakers, suspension and also the electrical system.
What makes this weight loss even better is greater fuel consumption, expect to achieve around 53MPG combined cycle.
Why can’t all car manufactures take something out of Mazda’s book, and shave weight from less important things from a vehicle.
