Chile Soccer Team Fight With Toronto Police

In the FIFA under 20 soccer tournament, the semi final was between Argentina and Chile.

However after the referee was dishing out red and yellow card like there was no tomorrow, the police had to get involved to stop the players getting out of hand.

Watch the Video below.

However what really makes this a big headline is the accusations that the Toronto police force used excessive force.

Tazers, pepper spray and billy clubs were used and there was blood spilling left right and center as the Chilean team and the Toronto police fought it out.

At least nine players were arrested.

Do you think the police were right to act the way they did?

I am astonished that no one in the media has pointed out that the action some police officers took against these very young Chilean players was a by-product of Canada having lost to Chile on Canada’s Independence Day July 1st.

It is obvious to me that Canadians are very sore at loosing to Chile on their Independence Day and on their own turf.

Umm, we do not even really care about soccer here. Oh, and it is called Canada Day not Independence Day. Your knowledge of Canada is quite underwhelming.

  3. Geoff Znderdine says:

Only someone who doesn’t know Canada would say that about soccer here. Quite simply, football has a very small following in Canada and it is likely that the police didn’t even know of the result much less care about it. This isn’t hockey we are talking about.

The Chilean players were abusive and out of control. They attempted to attack the officials. Let’s leave aside whether the officiating was bad or partial as it likely was. The issue is that the Chilean team acted like a bunch of hooligans and the police were right to restore order.

If you come to our country as a guest, don’t abuse our hospitality. Whether it is Copa America or U-20, the Chileans have behaved really badly this year. They should feel ashamed. It completely overshadows their play in both tournaments.
