Yi Jianlian will definitely not sign for Milwaukee Bucks
By: Daniel Chubb | July 19, 2007 | Leave a CommentThe owner of Yi’s former team the Guangdong Tigers has said that the power forward will “definitely not” sign with Milwaukee.
Chen Haitao said that the 6 foot 11, 6th NBA draft may return to the CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) if another NBA team doesn’t offer Yi a deal.
Yi’s agent, wants Yi to play in a bigger city with more of an Asian influence, or at least a larger city, rather than Milwaukee.
Apparently the main barrier stopping Yi going to Milwaukee is the lack of Chinese-Americans in the city.
“And it’s not about Yi’s commercial interests,” Chen said. “We want to find a team that is good for Yi’s development. That’s the root of the problem.”
Well it actually sounds like this is 100% about business, the agent wants to make as much money for himself and his player as possible and they will sell more basketball jerseys and NBA merchandise in a city with more Asians.
Do you think commercial interests have too much influence in the NBA?
